D小姐 is a very adventures eater. She has tried Somolian food, Ethopian food, Morrocan food.. etc.. I on the other hand, tend to stick to my usual cuisines - Chinese, Japanes, Korean or Italian. Yesterday in one of her emails, she suggested another adventurous idea - Tibetian cuisine. There were two restaurants that we could try. Both of them is on Queen St, except one takes about 1/2 hr street car to get to. So we decided to try the one that's closer to work.
It was cold and windy last night. So we hobbed onto the heated street car and got off after Bathurst Street. We knew the restuarant was on the North side of Queen st, but we didn't know the exact location. So we started walking and finally found the sign - Little Tibet.
Although it was a Thursday night, but there was only a table of four sitting by the window when we got there. D小姐 was cold so we picked a table that was inside the restaurant and further away from the door. This is a 'mom and pa' restaurant so we didn't expect any fancy decor. We ordered steamed Beef Momo (essentially it is Beef whole wheat Dumplings), Shap-ta (Beef Strip in a garlic, gingery sauce), a Lamb curry dish and a Chicken Fried noodles. I don't remember the Tibet names for the other two dishes. [Pictures below]
Momo - Looks like dumplings
Shap-ta
Curry Lamb (resturant was so dark, didn't know how to take a good pic)
Chicken Fried Noodles
The food was pretty good. The beef was a little chewy, but it was still tasty. The lamb was very good. It was tender, good mild curry taste and very hearty. Momo was so-so, I still prefer Chinese dumplings. Maybe next time I'll try pan-fried instead of steamed. We ordered T. Momo and rice for the saucy dishes. T. momo is like a 曼頭. It was warm, soft and Big. Reminds me of those 大菜包 you get at Dim Sum/Yum Chai. Good for dipping into the curry sauce.
The bill came out to $57 CDN without tax and tips - not bad for three hungry people.
