Restaurant: Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu

Last night we went out to Korean town for some much needed spicy K food with Ms. Y and her fiancee: )

My boy and I came to this restaurant about 2 years ago and we didn't like it.  Mostly it's because we wanted Pork Bone Soup and they don't offer that on their menu because it's not their speciality.  As per their name - Tofu is their main ingredients for all their soups.

**Disclaimer - I did not take any of the pictures. It's all from yelp.ca**

This place only offers 9 items so it's really easy for the Kitchen staff to prepare the food.  They have a 'Spicy Scale' for customers to choose their level of spice they want in their food.  Last night I ordered the extra spicy and Ms. Y goes "Are you sure, it's really red?"  Obviously, she has no idea how much I love spicy food : )

To give you an idea of how 'red' my soup was, here's a picture of someone else's soup.

I ordered #2 - Combination Soon Tofu (Beef, Shrimp and Mussel). The server drops 4 side dishes with a raw egg for each of us. (Note: the paste is for Bibimbap)

The raw egg is given to everyone who ordered a soup. Basically you crack it into your soup when it arrives to let the hot (I mean BOILING with bubbles) soup cook the egg.  Kind of like Chinese Egg Flower : )

My soup was quite delicious. Maybe it's because of the spice but I really like the kick it gives me.  The soup content was quite a good portion.  Not too much or too little.  There was 1 mussel, 2 shrimps, and several slices of beef along with many cubes of tofu.

The mussel is the frozen package kind so it was tasteless.  The shrimp was wierd, it's not the big one you get. It tastes like semi-dry shrimp.  The beef was good - not too chewy but flavourful.  The tofu was super smooth - but it wasn't at the point where it was breaking into many pieces.

This restaurant is quite unique in that they also serve their red dates rice in a hot pot look-alike bowl. A server will come and scoop the rice for you and then he will add water to the pot to loosen up the rice that's sticked to the bottom of the pot.  We were all super full by the time at the end of our dinner that the leftover rice was not touched at all.  Honestly, it didn't look too appetizing.

Every soup dish costs $7.08.  That's $8 including tax.  Super Cheap!!!!!

Would I come back?  Yes.

Would I take my friends here?  Yes.

Thank you I.minor for your suggestion! Will keep those in mind when I visit HK.

Little story to share: My cousin can't take spicy food. One time she cooked a spicy flavour instant noodle thinking she can deal with the spice - wrong. She ending up rinsing the noodels with hot water just to get rid of the spice- haha!
