Yesterday morning, I woke up with a craving to eat 'Small Dragon Buns' aka '小 龙包'. So bf and I decided to go back to our favourite dumpling place in Chinatown to satisfy our hungry stomach.
We found this place about a year ago while looking for some food in Chinatown. Aside: One thing I hate about going to that part of town is searching for parking places. I personally hate going to the Green P parking garage because it's usually in the basement, so it's dark, cold and gives me creeps. So we parked our car on the residential side street and started walking towards Dundas St.
From the outside, you wouldn't even notice there exist a restaurant. Back then there were 2 Dumpling House on that strip. We looked at both restaurants; one was empty and the other one was packed. Well obviously, we chose the packed one la.
Once you get inside, you'd be surprised how many tables it can fit in there. It has an inside and an outside portion. But as a whole, the restaurant holds only 8 tables. As you can see from the picture above, the table is covered in clear plastic table wrap. So you can guess this is a mom and pa's type of restaurant.
I haven't mentioned the restaurant name yet I have typed over 3 paragraphs in this blog. Let me introduce you to this little gem in Chinatown - voted best under $5 lunch in toronto by NOW magazine - Mother's Dumplings. Can you believe they have a website?
Yesterday, we ordered 小 龙包, 韭菜合子 and 炸酱面. When we took bf's cousin from Australia to this place last summer, we also ordered their fabulous 水饺 and 锅贴. They gave this place 2 thumbs up :) So that's something interesting you'll notice about this place, they have collected lots of amazing comments from their customers and they have put them on picture frames and displayed it all over the restaurant. Some of these comments and hilarious, but they all have one common theme. and that is this is one the the best little gem in chinatown :)
